This site measures how it is used, to see which work people find and look at, and which they miss.
Page views, and a few actions on the page: which projects come into view and are opened, videos played, sections scrolled into view, use of the filter, language switches and links out. Each event records the page, the language, the country (from the network, not your device), the type of device and the browser family.
No IP address and no user agent (the browser’s identifying string) are stored. Each visitor is represented by a hash of the IP address, the browser and the date, made with a secret salt. It changes every day, so one day’s visit cannot be linked to another’s. It is pseudonymous, not anonymous: whoever holds the salt could recompute it for a given day from the same address and browser. Where you came from is kept as the referring site’s address only, plus any utm_ campaign tag on the link, never the full link.
The measurement sets no cookies. The one exception is the opt-out cookie, which is set only if you opt out. It holds no identifier, only the fact that you opted out.
Reaching the bottom of the page plants one emoji in the shared garden, stored with the same daily hash and your country.
Measurement events are kept for 13 months, then deleted.
Visit /api/analytics/opt-out to stop this browser being counted. It also sets aside the days this browser and network were already counted, so they no longer appear in any figure. To undo it, visit /api/analytics/opt-out?undo=1 ; the browser is counted again from the next page load.
